Agricultural engineering is one of the main measures associated with agricultural development and modernization. Under fundraising and sponsorships were collected and the Agriculture Engineering Research Center (AERC) was established in 1971. It’s a non-governmental, not-for-profit research organization. The governmental supervising agency of AERC was the Ministry of Economic Affairs change to the Council of Agriculture (COA), Executive Yuan in 1989.
AERC is set up to handle engineering technology research and services applied to agriculture (including agriculture, forestry, fishery and animal husbandry), water and environmental resources, environmental ecology, scientific development, application services and rural development.
Land and water resources in agriculture:
Studies on the relationships among crops, soil and water, Studies on the investigation, exploration and utilization of groundwater, Studies on the planning and management of irrigation and drainage system, Studies on Water resources system planning and management methods, Studies on hydrology and fluid mechanics, Studies on the investigation, analysis, conservation and utilization of agricultural soil and water resources, Studies on application of flow metering equipment detection and modern flow measurement technology, Studies on disaster prevention prediction and development of disaster assessment technology, Research on smart water management, Study on Technology and application of climate change impact assessment, Agricultural meteorological Observatory and Soil and Water Resources Laboratory.
Agricultural engineering:
Studies on the designs and plans of agricultural engineering structures, Studies on the construction methods, instruments and materials of agricultural engineering, Investigation and studies on engineering geology and soil mechanics, studies on the development and utilization of marginal lands, Designs, studies and development of Aquacultural systems, Designs and studies on agricultural buildings, Designs and studies on the planning of farm villages and farm land consolidation, Research and development of automation and forecasting engineering and non-engineering facilities and education and training of farmland irrigation and drainage.
Agricultural environment:
Through the detection and analysis capabilities of the EPD accredited laboratories, conduct pollution surveys and research on surface water and groundwater, channel sediments, farmland soils and crops for irrigation, and assist the COA and the water conservancy associations to promote irrigation water quality management. In addition, we have extensive experience and implementation capabilities in environmental and ecological survey research, environmental education promotion, irrigation water quality management personnel training and well testing and management.
Computerization of irrigation affairs:
Irrigation management, financial management, general affairs, accounting, personnel, engineering, geographic information systems in agriculture and water resources technology and applied research, Studies on Geographic Information System for agriculture and water resources technology and applied research, Development for Standardization of construction designs for hydraulic engineering, Assisting personnel of irrigation associations for computer application, Enterprization and modernization of irrigation management for irrigation associations.
The AERC has improved research results by signing contracts with the NTU. The College of Bio-Resources & Agriculture have collaborated on projects with university professors and academic research institutes across the world.
Meanwhile, international collaborations with the International Water Management Institute and the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) for the enhancement of AERC research level.
